- ➤ Families will gather at the Dallas school district parking lot for a free trunk or treat drive through starting October 17 to give kids with autism and sensory issues a safe way to enjoy Halloween. The event has run for six years (with trunks themed from Toy Story to the Adams Family) and welcomes all children to join in the fun. FOX 56
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A couple in Scott Township found that their EBT benefits were stolen when multiple odd transactions appeared on their card early last week. They filed a police report and will wait until next month to receive new benefits—urging others to regularly check their balances. PA Homepage

- ➤ Hundreds visited Dunmore Cemetery on Sunday for a walking tour where actors portrayed local figures to share their stories — the tour will return the first and second Sundays of October next year. FOX 56
- ➤ A local writer remembers childhood Christmas traditions from trips to pick a Douglas fir at The Last Chance and decorating the tree with family ornaments. - ➤ WVIA will show the new documentary Making NEPA Home on Thursday at 7 p.m. on WVIA-TV—streaming live online. The film tells the story of four refugees and immigrants who left their home countries to start new lives in Northeast Pennsylvania and will be followed by a watch party at 1902 North Main Ave. WVIA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews worked to fix a power outage that caused traffic lights to go out at the intersection of Highland Park Boulevard and Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard in Northeastern Pennsylvania. PPL said downed wires caused the outage that affected about 490 customers from Dunmore to Wilkes-Barre Township — repair work was estimated to have been completed by 6 p.m. Sunday while township firefighters directed traffic. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Runners competed in the 28th Annual Steamtown Marathon on October 12 at Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton. Participants from across the country ran the race’s 26.2-mile route through 14 Lackawanna County towns, pushing their physical and mental limits. FOX 56
- ➤ Football fans in northeastern and central Pennsylvania talked after James Franklin was fired from Penn State. He ended his time with 104 wins—tied for second most by a Nittany Lions coach. PA Homepage
