- ➤ The Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton will run regular trolley rides through the end of October and host a special Halloween Fest this Sunday, Oct. 19 — featuring art activities, a costume contest, and rides with Melinda the Magical Witch. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Pittston Area School District Superintendent Kevin Booth was charged with simple assault and physical harassment after an altercation with his wife on October 5 — police reported he allegedly choked her while she said he came home drunk, and community members now await further details at the board meeting. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Scranton native Chef Ryan Von Smith—owner of Chef Von and Mom—will compete today at the World Food Championships in Indianapolis after winning last year's World Rice Champion title; he now aims for the World Burger title with his popular dish. The event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds will host over 2,000 competitors from 32 countries. FOX 56
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pittston Area High School’s Marching Band will represent Pennsylvania at the Bands of America’s Grand National Championships in Indianapolis as the only state team—competing among 110 elite bands. The band is leaving early Thursday at 1 a.m. for a three-day trip and will take the stage at 8:45 a.m. on November 14. FOX 56
