COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NEPA Youth Shelter held its grand opening Thursday on Providence Road near Scranton High School — a new center for after-school programs — and attracted a large crowd. The facility offers after-school activities — music, art, and cooking classes — that former participant Anthony Pauline said changed his life.  PA Homepage

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dunmore Elementary has opened a Calming Corner to help students manage their emotions with a sensory-friendly space offering low lighting, white noise—fidget tools for a private reset. Supported by the school’s PTA and the Gino LaRusso Foundation for Suicide Awareness, the room is now available to all students who need a break during tough moments.  WNEP

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicare open enrollment started on October 15 and will run until December 7 to let Pennsylvanians adjust benefits for 2026—counseling is available through Area Agencies on Aging and changes take effect on January 1.  PA Homepage

SPORTS NEWS

  • After beating Hazleton Area, Pittston Area clinched the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 championship with a 7-1 record — Lucas Lopresto set three school records in the last two games. The team will face Wallenpaupack today before finishing their season against Wyoming Area.  WNEP
