- ➤ After nearly a year of work, NEPA Youth Shelter opened its new teen center on Thursday near Scranton High School for local students. The drop-in space — with a kitchen and meeting room — will host after-school programs and support teens in the area. WVIA
- ➤ Food banks and pantries in Northeast Pennsylvania are struggling as state budget delays and federal funding cuts reduce food supplies while more families face hunger. Local groups such as American Primitive Methodist Church and Boyer's Market are boosting support through a soup sale and a Feed a Family program (last day Oct. 19, pick up Oct. 25) to help those in need. - ➤ Rescue workers at the SPCA of Luzerne County featured Duken, a 3-year-old pit bull noted for his gentle nature despite an intimidating look — he has been at the shelter nearly a year after his previous owner surrendered him during a move.
