- ➤ Students in the Abington Heights School District are using the Abington Angels program to help families in need with full Thanksgiving dinner kits and pantry staples for winter and spring breaks. The Abington Angel Marketplace will be held at Abington Heights Middle School on Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—raising funds to cover school supplies and other essential items. The Abington Journal
- ➤ Today at United Neighborhood Centers in Scranton, WNEP marked the start of its 41st Feed A Friend Campaign that began on October 20 and has fed thousands of families across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Campaign Chairman Joe Snedeker thanked local supporters — his remarks stressed that community help remains key as the campaign continues. WNEP

- ➤ Diva Productions will present Michael Hollinger’s play 'Incorruptible' starting Nov. 7 with shows on Nov. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16 in Scranton; the play, set in AD 1250 in Priseaux, France, stars local actor Joe Palumbo, Bob Balitski, and Sam Falbo and will charge $15 for general admission—$12 for students, seniors, and veterans. - ➤ On Monday, Pennsylvania farmers met in Clarks Summit to discuss rising supply costs and free trade, and U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan joined the roundtable to bring their concerns to lawmakers in Washington—D.C. - ➤ Wyoming Valley West School District has initiated an external lockdown today after a potential threat was reported outside the district and officials say there is no direct danger. Students and staff remain inside their buildings (entry and exit are restricted) until law enforcement provides the all clear (further updates will follow). FOX 56
- ➤ Marywood University held its annual advocacy and social justice day Wednesday — themed 'raise your voice, shape your future' — featuring campus-wide sessions on food insecurity, ethical uses of AI, and a clothing swap. Professors allowed students to skip regular classes so they could join these discussions and learn about social change. FOX 56
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ High winds knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses in northeastern and Central Pennsylvania yesterday. PPL reported outages of over 6,200 in Lackawanna, 13,000 in Wayne, 4,900 in Monroe, 2,000 in Carbon, 2,000 in Schuylkill, 2,500 in Union, 2,200 in Northumberland, and 600 in Columbia counties — repairs are ongoing. - ➤ Former Scranton Mayor and Vietnam veteran David Wenzel died on Wednesday, according to media relations at the University of Scranton—he was known for improving city accessibility during his term from 1985 to 1990. His legacy as a public servant and war hero has left a lasting mark on our community. WNEP
- ➤ State human services officials reported that the federal government is requiring states to use a complex and labor-intensive method to calculate partial SNAP benefits, which will delay aid for nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians. Pennsylvania officials said that the new process will need 10,000 hours of work and require 9–12 business days plus extra time to complete system changes—resulting in delayed food assistance amid the ongoing shutdown. - ➤ More than 50 Archbald residents attended a Wednesday night planning meeting to voice concerns about two proposed data center campuses with over 20 planned buildings — local residents worry the new developments may harm the valley's natural appeal. The planning commission will send its comments to the zoning officer for the official report and advise that public records must be obtained through the Right to Know process — further details will follow.
