- ➤ Veterans united at Back Mountain Brewing in Dallas and Heroes Hearthstone last Saturday to launch the Colonial Ale release party supporting programs for veteran and first responder post-traumatic stress disorder. Rick Blain (founder of Heroes Hearthstone) said the event raised thousands of dollars through community fundraising. WNEP
- ➤ At the Steamtown marketplace on Saturday, the one-night Stunt Cat and Friends Saves Christmas indie wrestling event raised funds for Christmas gifts for children with disabilities. The event also honored Aiden Bartley, who lost his life from pancreatic cancer+ and organizers plan to make the tribute an annual effort. WNEP
- ➤ Elm Park Church hosted a free community meal on the second Saturday in Scranton to support neighbors amid the government shutdown and SNAP funding issues. The meal served chicken, vegetables, mashed potatoes, desserts, and take-home canned food— and more people attended than expected. WNEP
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Healthcare workers and local officials gathered on City Hall steps in Scranton to support finalizing an October 24 agreement with Tenor Health Foundation that would protect key regional hospitals and union jobs+ The deal, which would acquire several hospitals to keep essential care local, has not yet been finalized and concerns remain over worker security. - ➤ Rock Steady Boxing of Northeast Pennsylvania offers boxing classes for people with Parkinson’s in Old Forge and Tunkhannock to help them manage their symptoms and stay active. Patients like Bill West say the classes improve their balance and energy — building a strong community that helps them fight the disease. WVIA

- ➤ Members of the Dunmore basketball team held a fundraiser along North Blakely and East Drinker streets on Saturday to raise money for uniforms, team bags, and gear. Senior Jimmy Clarke from Dunmore High School said the funds raised—meant to cover these items—will be used for upcoming team expenses. WNEP
