COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over the weekend, the Wyoming Valley Veterans Parade honored veterans in Wilkes-Barre despite rain and a government shutdown that barred active duty military from marching—local groups and families lined the route to show support. Organizers said they will hold next year's parade on November 8.  PA Homepage
  • Hundreds gathered on Sunday at AJ's Bar-N-Grill in Carbondale to support three-year-old Levi Zuckerman in his battle against cancer and to raise funds for his family's medical bills, food, and travel — guests paid $15 for a pasta dinner and joined over 100 basket raffles.  WNEP
  • On Sunday, community members and Marines gathered at Dunmore High School for a youth football game and donated a toy each to help families in need—supporting children during the holiday season in Lackawanna County.  WNEP
  • On Sunday, a designer purse silent auction and raffle was held at Cooper's Seafood House in Lackawanna County to support United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Bidders placed offers on designer handbags and raffle prizes such as Railriders tickets and Montage Mountain lift passes, and UCP plans a Christmas wrapping event at Viewmont Mall in December.  WNEP
  • Residents gathered on Sunday in Spring Brook Township to bid on blow molds at the Jones Auction House's 8th Annual November Auction—families and collectors secured holiday decorations and vintage pieces amid record crowds.   • At Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton, community members honored veterans with an annual mass and reception—featuring a mass blessing, a special recognition program, and remarks by veteran Sean Douglas.   • On Sunday, the 5th annual Extra Life charity event by Lackawanna College Esports was held at Bartari along Lackawanna Avenue to raise funds for children at Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital near Danville—esports players and community members competed in pinball tournaments, Dungeons and Dragons games, and live-streamed gameplay while aiming to surpass past totals of $12,000 and $11,000.  WNEP

  • Jones Auction House in Spring Brook held its annual Blow Mold Auction that attracted collectors nationwide—bidders came to see holiday plastic molds from Santa to pumpkins. The auction house, which claims the sale is the largest of its kind, will host its Antique & Vintage Christmas Decoration Auction on November 23—drawing more buyers for festive collectibles.  FOX 56
