Good morning, Scranton.

On Saturday, dozens of local donors gathered at NEPA Youth Shelter's new teen center on Providence Road in Scranton to support the fundraiser before winter.

The center, which opened a month ago—providing a pantry, clothing closet, and recording booth—now serves about 50 to 60 teens every weekday after school.

Paramedic Emmett Thomas, from Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance, is fighting cancer after a tumor affecting his lung and encircling his aorta was discovered — the community gathered at Jenkins Township Fire Department for a benefit with live music, food, and raffles to honor his service. Organizer Frank Cawley said the event was organized to support Thomas and his family during his treatment.

On Saturday, Saint John's Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Mayfield hosted its 33rd Christmas Bazaar — guests tried homemade desserts, pierogies, halupki, clam chowder, raffle baskets, and holiday shopping — and visitors traveled from nearby areas up to three hours away.

A local roller derby team raced around the track on Saturday night in Moosic for a good cause—collecting non-perishable food for the Greater Pittston Food Pantry after local SNAP cuts impacted families.

The team plans more fundraising bouts to support local charities in the future.

Abington Heights boys soccer clinched the state championship on Saturday morning with a 2-0 win at Northeastern York High School + they kept a clean sheet for nearly 10 hours of play.
