COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 1500 people visited the Scranton Hilton on Sunday for the Electric City Reptile Expo, where over 50 vendors displayed reptiles, supplies, and habitat upgrades. Founder Matthew Helring said he and his wife started the expo three years ago—hoping to bring a local event to NEPA—and the show helped the public learn to appreciate reptiles.  FOX 56
  • On Sunday, more than 100 people visited Tusk, a tattoo and piercing shop in Lackawanna County, where they enjoyed tattoos, raffle baskets, t-shirts, and five kittens available for adoption — the proceeds supported the Barbuti Kitten Academy and Charm School. Organizer Cassandra Barbuti explained — the event helped care for pregnant, nursing, and socializing cats.  WNEP

  • On Sunday, the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre LP vinyl record and CD show returned to the Woodlands where dozens of fans viewed vinyl records, CDs, 45s, DVDs and books—featuring music from Van Morrison to Machine Gun Kelly.  WNEP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Scranton is hosting its second free electronics recycling event today at the Department of Public Works headquarters to collect old televisions, computer monitors, and printers. Christopher McClatchy said the event uses an online sign-up system with 150 slots every 15 minutes to ensure a smooth drop-off process—reducing disposal costs under a new contract with Waste Management.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local families honored more than 50 organ donor heroes at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Scranton on Sunday, where about 250 people gathered to reflect on the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donations. The event, organized by Gift of Life, reminded attendees that one deceased donor can save up to eight lives — with over 105,000 people waiting for a transplant nationwide, organizers stressed the urgent need for more donors.  PA Homepage
  • WVIA's News Voices featured a discussion with Sarah Scinto and Lydia McFarlane on Rock Steady Boxing at two gyms in Northeast Pennsylvania that help people with Parkinson's disease slow the progression of their symptoms. The segment aired today at 5:00 a.m.—it explained how boxing sessions are used as an innovative therapy.  WVIA
