- ➤ City officials, Scranton Fire Department members, and Tony Walsh’s family gathered Friday to rename the old North Scranton Mini Park on Wayne Avenue as Tony Walsh Park — a tribute that honors the veteran firefighter’s 25 years of service and deep local ties. FOX 56
- ➤ Family to Family is preparing a drive-through Thanksgiving food basket giveaway five days from now and is halfway to its goal of raising over $110,000 to provide 4,000 baskets filled with a 12-to-14-pound turkey, potatoes, and bread—organizers are partnering with Meals on Wheels, the Area Agency on Aging, and United Way to deliver 2,500 meals to homebound families—donations are welcomed from the community. - ➤ On Friday, senior centers from Scranton, Fallbrook, Mid Valley, and Hillside competed in a Family Feud tournament held at the Scranton facility—Amanda’s Hillbillies from Clarks Summit won the final round hosted by Drew Popish and state representative Kyle Donahue. - ➤ The Go-Getters podcast team is working with family and friends at the Gather Community Space in Wilkes-Barre to cook Thanksgiving meals, having prepared 200 meals so far and planning to serve about 600 people. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State park campgrounds in Lackawanna and Ricketts Glen will close in fall 2026 for bathroom upgrades funded by an $8 million investment from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Renovations will begin in September and the campgrounds will reopen in early 2028; however, group tent camping and modern cabin facilities at Ricketts Glen will stay open — offering visitors a safe alternative during the upgrades. - ➤ At a tense hearing on November 14, Rabbi Benny Rapoport proposed building 12 cabins on his 21-acre property in Lackawanna County to provide a retreat for Jewish traditions, sparking concerns that the project could change the quiet, agricultural area.
