COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, nearly 1,500 marchers and more than 100 vehicles filled downtown Scranton as families gathered for the Santa Parade—featuring music, festive floats and Santa himself. The 31st parade brought both first-time visitors and longtime fans together in a joyful celebration of the season.  PA Homepage
  • North Scranton Mini Park — now called Tony Walsh Park — was rededicated last Friday to honor the late firefighter who served 25 years with Rescue Company Number One. Walsh died in 2023.  PA Homepage
  • Volunteers served over 300 free Thanksgiving meals starting at 4:00 p.m. today at Duryea Borough Police Department and Crime Watch’s 12th annual event—canned goods and fresh vegetables were collected to support local families and will be donated to Pittston Area Meals on Wheels.  FOX 56
  • On Saturday, the Marketplace at Steamtown in Scranton hosted its Holiday market from 12pm to 5pm with over 50 vendors selling festive items—stickers, clothes, and prints—and shoppers enjoyed live music and a visit from the Grinch. Organizers announced a second market will take place in December.  FOX 56

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firearms bear season is underway and will continue until Tuesday. Officials reported 61 bears were harvested in Luzerne County (bringing the state total near 600) and urged hunters to wear orange for safety.  WNEP

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medical students from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine volunteer to sit with hospice patients at Allied Services centers in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre through the No One Dies Alone program. The program started in 2022 and trains new groups every September to meet Medicare rules and give comfort to patients when family cannot be there.  WVIA
