  • Today, volunteers gathered outside the Scranton Cultural Center for the Friends of the Poor and the Catherine McAuley Center’s 49th Annual Thanksgiving Meal Distribution — a program that has served 5,975 precooked meals to families in need — to ease holiday costs. They are also hosting a Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway — offering turkeys and fresh produce — to help families manage expenses this season.  FOX 56

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Realterm— a global firm specializing in transportation-related real estate—purchased two industrial sites totaling 43 acres in Scranton's Stauffer Industrial Park, with over 102,000 square feet leased to ID Logistics. The larger site features a 61,922-square-foot terminal warehouse and 84 dock doors, and the move is expected to boost the firm’s regional presence as demand for freight facilities rises.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ballet Theatre of Scranton marks 50 years of free Nutcracker performances by offering educational and sensory-friendly shows. The ballet will run Nov. 28, 29, and 30 at noon and 5:30 p.m. at Theatre at North — honoring founder Constance Reynolds on her birthday.  WVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport Executive Director Carl Beardsley Jr. took a sabbatical leave, as confirmed by airport attorney Don Frederickson, who said the move does not reflect a permanent departure. Assistant executive director B.J. Teichman took over operations during his absence—staff were informed on Monday.  WVIA
  • On November 25, Luzerne County Council voted on a PILOT Agreement and financing plan for Tenor Health System’s bid to acquire Wilkes-Barre General Hospital—this plan requires an annual payment of $850,000 and may involve borrowing up to $72 million if the deal moves forward. Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti declared Gratitude Week for Regional and Moses Taylor Hospital Workers—from Nov. 25 to 30—to recognize hospital staff amid ongoing ownership changes.  WVIA
  • Plains Township officials turned off power to The Woodlands Inn and Resort Monday due to about $100,000 in unpaid bills and safety code violations that led to the evacuation of around two dozen people; power was restored Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and an inspection will be repeated—ensuring the building meets safety standards.  PA Homepage
  • Rabbi Benny Rapoport of the Chabad of the Abingtons proposed 12 cabins for a religious retreat on his 21-acre property in Waverly Township, Lackawanna County. The zoning board held a tense three-hour hearing last week and will continue deliberations next month—raising questions about the project’s impact.  WVIA
