- ➤ Patty’s Marvelous Mission in Scranton has helped families for five years by providing food, gifts, and Christmas presents with six volunteers. The group urgently needs donations to cover its $250 monthly garage rent so more kids can enjoy a festive holiday season. FOX 56
- ➤ Mohegan Arena held its 20th annual Open Skate Wednesday evening, drawing guests to skate and donate to Toys for Tots. The event showcased local spirit (supporting families during the holiday season) as part of a community-driven effort. FOX 56
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ An art exhibit at the University of Scranton shows northeastern Pennsylvania’s coal mining history. Jon Meyer toured the exhibit to explore artworks that capture the region’s rich industrial past + invite locals to view the display. WNEP
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Marywood University started the holiday season today with a tree lighting in the Liberal Arts Center rotunda that features a 25‑foot fir lit with about 10,000 LED lights + festive attractions including carols, a craft fair, hot chocolate, reindeer, and photo ops as more concerts follow this week. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The LIHEAP program began accepting applications yesterday to help low-income households pay heating bills. Eligible residents can apply online, by mail, or at county assistance offices from Dec. 3 to April 10 and must show proof of income & a recent heating bill. WNEP
- ➤ PennDOT explained how it manages heavy snowfall with 41 cameras and 63 message boards in District Four during Tuesday's storm. Seasonal CDL drivers are being recruited to work until April 2026 as plow crews advise limited travel to help clear roads (from Dunmore to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Airport). PA Homepage
- ➤ Residents in Waverly Township will appeal a permit issued on Nov. 24 that allows a local religious group to build 12 overnight cabins on a 21-acre property (raising concerns about zoning limits and rural character). Leader Margaret Neville said neighbors fear the expansion could lead to further changes to the area. WVIA

- ➤ Scranton fire officials are urging residents to water Christmas trees daily and keep flammable items three feet away from heat sources to lower holiday fire risks. They also stress the need for working smoke detectors and having a fire extinguisher on hand. FOX 56
