  • Old Forge residents celebrated their annual Snow Forge event today as Main Street became a winter wonderland filled with festive lights, food stalls, train rides, and a petting zoo (featuring an alpaca) that brings neighbors together and boosts local business.  PA Homepage
  • Christmas in the Corners returned to Lackawanna County on Sunday as the Dunmore Business Association hosted a festive event featuring live music, food, raffles, and a tree lighting. Thousands of community members enjoyed the fourth annual celebration.  WNEP
  • Local volunteers and professional stylists provided hair washes and haircuts on Sunday during the 34th annual Santa's Snippers event—raising funds to help families access food, shelter and safe spaces through the Women's Resource Center.  WNEP
  • On Sunday, dozens gathered at Everhart Museum at Nay Aug Park for Snow Much Fun day with live jazz Christmas music, face painting, paper doll-making and a large clothing swap hosted by Swap Scranton. Founder Hannah Radkiewicz said the event aimed to build community ties and reduce clothing waste.  WNEP
  • The 9/11 Memorial Committee hosted a ceremony yesterday in Lackawanna County to honor local heroes on the 84th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Over 100 natives were remembered for their service and sacrifice (a plaque was unveiled to spotlight individual acts of bravery).  FOX 56
  • More than 100 racers took part in the 8th annual Jingle Bell Jog on Sunday in Old Forge, starting along East Dunn Avenue and finishing at Revellos on South Main Street. Funds raised will support the local cross-country team in Lackawanna County.  WNEP

  • Grotto Pizza clarified that its Pennsylvania restaurants remain under the same local ownership today despite misreported claims linking them to an ownership change; only the Delaware locations are now sold to longtime employees (the company addressed the error via social media).  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local jazz concert reinterpreted holiday classics Sunday at Scranton Preparatory School, featuring a 17-piece band and Broadway singers — the event also hosted a toy drive for WRC to support local families.  FOX 56
  • On Sunday, the Lackawanna Historical Society hosted a book signing with author Daniel J. Packer Jr.—he recounted Scranton’s historic department stores from his new book and celebrated the city’s golden age of shopping.  FOX 56

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A recent article recalls the 1983 giardiasis crisis when contaminated tap water from PG&W nearly led to widespread illness, prompting Pennsylvania American Water to upgrade its safety measures.
