COMMUNITY NEWS

  • State Rep. Bridget Kosierowski announced more than $1.3 million in state funds will support local groups in Lackawanna County—targeting affordable housing, food insecurity, and mental health outreach. The grants will aid projects ranging from residential upgrades to job training efforts across the community.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Jewish Discovery Center in Waverly Township hosted a Hanukkah celebration that united community members to mark the holiday and stand against hate following a recent antisemitic attack overseas. Speakers shared personal stories, emphasizing resilience and the power of kindness.  PA Homepage
  • Student artwork promoting safe driving and sober holidays was honored Tuesday at Scranton Cultural Center where more than 1,200 entries from local schools were submitted for a contest hosted by the Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scott Township supervisors rejected the Penn Coneflower Solar Project after residents raised concerns over its lack of community benefits during a conditional-use hearing. Developers and experts testified on the renewable energy plan before the decision was made on farmland along the township border.  FOX 56
  • Mary Wilding presented the department its newest member, a five-month-old K-9 dog named Red, at Tuesday's township meeting to honor her fallen son, John Wilding (who died in 2015). The dog will train for up to a year before joining active duty.  WNEP
  • Residents near Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton are upset after a recent city council vote (3-2) rezone the area, allowing Geisinger to add a parking garage and 84 beds near Mulberry Street; many plan to attend upcoming meetings to voice concerns.  PA Homepage
  • A Doylestown developer appealed Clifton Township's zoning board decision that allowed data centers after nearly four hearings. The appeal, filed on Nov. 26, challenges the zoning ordinance for its proposed (Project Gold) data center campus planned along Route 380 between Clifton and Covington.  WVIA
