- ➤ The Scranton Jazz Festival celebrated 20 years with a three-day event downtown that featured more than 80 top musicians and special performances from the PA Jazz Institute—attendees listened to live music while local fans and artists shared their memories of jazz. FOX 56
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A former insurance office building on Montage Mountain will be redeveloped into a cyber charter school center by Commonwealth Charter Academy — a project costing $33.5 million that will support virtual teaching, testing, and staff work. The center, which will serve over 4,200 local students and more than 550 employees, is planned for completion in mid-2026. WVIA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says wildfire smoke from central Canada will push into parts of the state today—placing 20 counties, including Lackawanna, under a Code Orange alert and advising sensitive groups to avoid heavy outdoor activity while residents reduce gas-powered equipment use. This alert also recommends avoiding open burning and reducing fireplace use to lessen particulate pollution. PA Homepage
