ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged a plaza in Old Forge Friday morning when an electrical malfunction in the Convenient Food Mart attic triggered flames that led to a collapsed roof and damage to nearby shops — state police ruled the fire accidental.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hundreds of readers attended the first Electric City Love Con — held at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton — where over 100 romance authors signed books and shared recommendations.  WVIA
  • Yesterday, the NEPA Philharmonic performed at Lackawanna County Children's Library in a special event titled Once Upon an Orchestra that featured a live reading of What Do You Do With an Idea by Kobi Yamada and a string quartet — two violins, one viola and one cello — to spark interest in music and literature. Children’s Programming Coordinator Meghan Sucheski said the performance aimed to inspire young listeners.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre say that small classes and one-to-one instruction are fading—empty classrooms, shifting schedules, and fewer professors leave many feeling the campus is shutting down. The school says it will begin classes on August 25 and work closely with students, while some seniors worry it will close after spring 2027.  FOX 56
